Time to get started on the wowlookwhatigot.com blog! Never used so many exclamation marks as since I started this project :-)
So, to start at the beginning, wowlookwhatigot.com is a new project being put together by Martin Herbert and Vivi-Mari Carpelan. We are an artist couple from Mid-Wales who are fed up with not making enough money to live off and have decided to do something about it. The usual way of doing things - that is, sell a few expensive paintings to well-off collectors now and then, while simultaneously paying half of the proceeds in commission to a gallery, obviously isn't working in the current economic situation. On the other hand, we don't believe the problem is that people don't want art, just that times are hard and money is tight. Our solution is to make fine-art prints available at very low prices and sell a lot of them, by asking people to subscribe, paying a small amount of money (£5), to receive a new piece of art each month - something new and exciting that will, indeed, prompt people to show their friends and say " Wow! Look what I got!"
As I'm writing this first entry, the project is begun, but not yet live; a website is ready, and plans to raise capital and build an initial subscriber base using crowd funding through indiegogo.com are under way - we're in the middle of shooting a promo video, and as soon as that's ready we'll be pretty close to starting!
So, exciting times ahead - I have no idea whether in a month's time I'll be crying over a bottle of whisky and wondering where I went wrong, or looking for office space to start our new venture. Whatever happens, over the next weeks I'll use this blog to chart our progress, so that when we do finally go live, there'll be a little record of how we got that far...
